Our plot

We took on our plot at the end of 2008. Our plot is an old rot plot so has great soil from all the rotting vegetation. It was covered for three years so the idea is that everything below would turn into nice soil. Bindweed has a different idea as it was everywhere under the sheet and in the soil. According to the RHS a couple of years of constant digging will get rid of bindweed. Hopefully we’ve pulled out some of it. We’ll find out in spring I guess!

The soil is pretty good or so we assume as all the other allotment holders seem to have soil envy. The nettles certainly seemed to like it. We’ve put on a little shed and made 3 raised beds so far. There are lots of reasons to have raised beds but we did it mainly for aesthetic reasons. We wanted to do it cheaply so just used fencing wood strips arranged in rectangles. Hopefully it will last for a while without rotting!

We've also got a tiny tool shed we got relatively cheaply on sale from Shed Store.

We’ve dug about 50% of our 14x7m plot. The rest is still under cover and we’ll get to that when we can!
